Local drone surveys in Belgravia, planned around the site and the airspace.

Belgravia is the most uniform building stock we survey anywhere, and that uniformity is precisely the point. Thomas Cubitt built it out for the Grosvenor family from the 1820s, and Belgrave Square, Eaton Square, Chester Square and Wilton Crescent remain continuous runs of white stuccoed terrace, five and six storeys over vaults, with the composition still held together by the Grosvenor estate management scheme that controls external colour and alteration. When a freeholder or managing agent is pricing an external redecoration, or arguing a schedule of condition before neighbouring works start, they need consistent evidence of every elevation at every level — not a ladder survey of the bottom two floors and guesswork above. A high proportion of Belgrave Square is now embassies and institutions, which adds a layer of security awareness to the flight planning.

The buildings and sites we survey in Belgravia

Almost everything is 1820s to 1840s Cubitt: London stock brick faced in stucco to full height on the squares, painted in the estate's approved off-white, with balustraded parapets, iron balconies and heavy cornices. Roofs are slate, usually shallow butterfly or valley profiles set behind the parapet and completely invisible from the pavement, draining to internal and lead-lined box gutters. The mews behind — Eaton Mews, Wilton Row, Kinnerton Street — are lower two-storey former stabling, now houses, with their own repeatedly patched flat roofs. The defects that matter are hairline and blown stucco, ferrous cramp corrosion, cracked cornice mouldings, and parapet gutters that have been overlaid rather than properly relined.

Flying it legally

Airspace and permissions over Belgravia

Belgravia's north-eastern corner runs up to Hyde Park Corner, and restricted area R157 covers Hyde Park, where no drone of any weight may fly without NATS approval. Buckingham Palace and its gardens lie a short distance east, and the CAA lists royal palaces and government buildings among places subject to permanent restrictions. Every Belgravia site therefore gets an individual check on the NATS UAS Restriction Zones map before we quote. Outside any restricted area the constraint is congested-area separation, which our CAA Operational Authorisation addresses by replacing the 150m standoff with 50m from uninvolved people.

What we get asked for in Belgravia

Full-height stucco and cornice condition survey on an Eaton Square or Chester Square terrace ahead of an external redecoration tender.
Schedule of condition covering all elevations of a Belgrave Square building before a neighbouring basement excavation or major refurbishment begins.
Parapet and concealed butterfly-gutter inspection where water is tracking into top-floor ceilings and no one can safely get up there to look.
Mews property flat-roof and rear elevation record for a managing agent's planned maintenance programme.
Existing-condition evidence pack at high level to support an estate management scheme or listed building consent application.

Drone surveys in Belgravia — frequently asked questions

Can a drone survey support a Grosvenor estate management scheme or listed building application?

It can provide the evidence. We supply high-resolution elevation imagery, close-up detail shots and a plain-English written report describing the condition we recorded, which is the existing-condition material those applications normally call for. We do not make submissions on your behalf and we make no claim about the outcome — consent decisions rest with the estate and with Westminster City Council.

Is Belgravia simply too restricted for drone work?

No, but it is not automatic either. Restricted area R157 covers Hyde Park at the northern edge, Buckingham Palace lies to the east, and the whole area is congested. What that means in practice is that we check your specific address on the NATS UAS Restriction Zones map before quoting, tell you plainly whether an application is needed, and give you an indicative lead time rather than a promise — NATS ask for several weeks' notice for the central London restricted areas, and we confirm current lead times when we quote.

Can you survey a full stucco elevation on Eaton Square without closing the road?

Yes. There is no scaffolding and no working at height, so the carriageway and footway stay open and the survey is normally a single short visit. We agree the take-off point with you in advance — a private garden, a courtyard or a mews behind is usually better than the square itself, because it keeps us further from uninvolved people and shortens the whole operation.

How far is Belgravia from your base, and how soon do we get the results?

We are based at North Weald, near Epping, roughly 26 miles by road. Where no airspace application is required we can normally schedule within the usual working week, and imagery, video and the written report come back within a few days of the shoot. Where an application is required, that lead time sits on top and we will tell you before you commit to anything.
